Welcome to Shrewsbury House in Penistone, nr. Sheffield.

24 HOUR STAFFING FOR SEMI-INDEPENDENT LIVING IN A COMMUNAL HOUSE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 16 PLUS REGISTERED WITH OFSTED AS A HALFWAY HOUSE.

Shrewsbury House provides quality affordable accommodation with high levels of support for Young People in the transitional stage of becoming independent and often in the process of leaving local authority care. It also aims to ensure that Young Parents are not excluded from this provision, as typically services available have been with a child protection focus and not designed to meet the needs of Young Parents who need to learn skills and confidence to parent. We provide a service for Young Parents within an environment where the emphasis is on learning parenting skills, and the confidence and competence to parent independently, whilst recognising that the Young Parent has needs of their own as Young People.

Additionally, we have extensive experience of working with young people with a learning disability with high support needs, and  have been successful in assisting them in living semi-independently and moving into independence.

Shrewsbury House is registered as a ‘halfway house’ under the Children’s Homes Regulations 2002 – this means that we meet the National Minimum Standards for Young People aged 16+, and nationally we are one of a few providers registered specifically to provide independence preparation for Young People aged 16 years and above.

Shrewsbury House is an accommodation project in which qualified social work staff and experienced social care staff will provide an intensive independence programme with each Young Person to develop the skills required to live as independent, socially included citizens. Staff are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to support Young People in undertaking their independence programme and at least one member of the management team will be at work or on call at all times of the night and day.
