Welcome to Gawber Road in Barnsley Gawber Road is a small communal Unit where the main focus of work is to assess Parenting Skills. This includes supporting and advising Parents in developing their parenting skills, and additionally, where appropriate, supporting parents in developing their independence and life skills. At Gawber Road, we are experienced at working with single parents and couples of all ages and abilities. We are experienced at working with parents with learning disabilities and use the Parenting Assessment Model by Dr McGaw. We particularly specialise in working with Younger Parents, particularly those who have or are leaving care. Young People are supported in developing their confidence and abilities in parenting whilst ensuring that the needs of the Young Person as an individual are also promoted and addressed.Assessments are individually tailored according to needs, but all Parenting Assessments focus upon ‘The Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families’ and the parents ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of their baby. The well being of the children is our primary focus throughout the placement and assessment. We aim to ensure that the baby’s needs are met and that the baby’s welfare is promoted and safeguarded.
