Gawber Road - Accomodation & Location

Gawber Road is based in 2 adjoining houses with 4 floors in each house. The houses operate independently with three families living on a communal basis in each house with offices operated in each house. Both houses have been recently (April/May 2010) been extensively renovated, refurnished and equipped.

There are 4 bedrooms in one house and 3 bedrooms in the other house. Each room is fully and comfortably equipped. There are 4 bedrooms of a sufficient size to accommodate either a couple and their child or a family with more than one child. One of the bedrooms is used as a staff sleeping room and small meeting room.

Communal areas include 2 large entrance halls, two fully equipped kitchens with dining areas, and 2 lounges in each house. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the dining area and lounges are well furnished. Equipment such as television, video and audio equipment is provided for communal areas. Safety equipment is provided. Arrangements can be made for parents to have access to a computer and the internet.

There are communal toilets/bathrooms. There are laundry facilities available in both houses. 

There is an entrance hall for prams and pushchairs. Both properties have a garden, and facilities for staff car parking.

As small family homes, there is close contact between staff and parents through communal rooms, there are no surveillance measures used in the Unit. Staff closely and actively monitor what is happening. Parents are encouraged to use baby monitors, and agreement may be given to using them for staff monitoring purposes.

There is a buzzer on the exit doors that alert staff if someone is going out/coming in.
