The Flats are suitable for Young People, male and female, aged 16 to 24 years who are ready, both practically and emotionally, to live independently with daily support. It is particularly suitable for Young People who have left care or are in the process of ‘Leaving Care’, and who have experienced semi-independent living. Flats are also available for Young Parents with a baby or young child, for situations in which the parent requires intensive support.
The Flats are not suitable for Young People with a history of recent offending, or substance misuse problems. It is not suitable for Young Parents where there are significant Child Protection concerns, or for Young People who are unable to act responsibly.
The Flats would benefit Young People that have medium to low level needs, and who require ongoing support. The Young People should be motivated to move onto independence and participate in a structured programme to enable this to occur. This may include addressing the following areas, but if additional needs were identified, these would be included:
· Education, employment or training schemes;
· Independent living skills in practical areas: cooking, hygiene, cleaning, shopping, laundry, etc.;
· Looking after themselves: health appointments, healthy diet, exercise, personal hygiene, safety in the home and
. first aid etc.;
· Budgeting;
· Behavioural issues;
· Identity issues;
· Social Skills, including communication, problem solving etc.
· Relationships (including parenting for Young Parents);
· Accessing services;
· Basic household maintenance and DIY;
· Group meetings and responsibilities to others;
· Emotional Support;
· Leisure activities & Participation in community projects.
